Uniform Exchange

Scouts Helping Scouts

One of Scouting's methods of youth development includes wearing a uniform. The Scout uniform makes Scouting visible as a force for good, signifies the Scout's commitment to Scouting ideals, and serves as an economic equalizer for all youth.

Recognizing the essential role of the uniform in Scouting, the "Scouts Helping Scouts” program, with the support of fellow Scouters, offers assistance to Scouts who would not otherwise be able to purchase a uniform. The generosity of Scouts and Scouters across the council enables many Sam Houston Area Council Scouts, who might otherwise not be able to do so, to wear uniforms.

Adult leaders who are trained in their registered position also qualify to participate in the uniform exchange program. Every youth deserves a trained leader. Scouts can’t reach their full potential without a trained leader leading them on that path.

The Process

The unit leader certifies the Scout has qualified by:

  • Being a registered Scout in Sam Houston Area Council.
  • Being active in the unit for three meetings.
  • Earning one rank advancement.
  • Showing Scout spirit and participating in the Scouting program to the best of their ability.

--and--

  • Their den leader or Scoutmaster is trained.

For adult leaders, the unit committee chair certifies the application.
