ur outdoor space has become more important to us than ever, so it’s important to make it as comfortable and chic as possible. And you don’t have to spend a fortune to do so although, if you do want to treat yourself, there’s certainly plenty of opportunity for that, too.

The best sun loungers are the perfect place to start creating your garden haven or balcony bolthole - what could be more splendid than soaking up the sun with a good book on a resplendent recliner?

And there’s a sun lounger style for every taste; traditionalists with large country gardens might want to invest in a luxe rattan lounger with all the bells and whistles (think matching side table and comfy cushion); industrial fans should look to powder coated steel frames and quick-drying mesh fabrics for a top easy-maintenance and edgy-style mix; and those with compact patios and balconies may want to look to foldable canvas options that can be easily stored when not in use.

Of course, there’s also something for the Scandi-lovers (hello, creamy bamboo-framed heaven), coastal-chic devotees (think blue stripes), and even a lounging station with its own parasol attached - bliss.

We’ve rounded up our favourite sun loungers below so all you have to do is lie back and put your feet up.

Rolio natural slatted acacia wood lounger

Designed exclusively for Habitat by TV’s the Rich brothers, this contemporary-cool meets natural-chic sun lounger has a sculptural design for ultimate comfort, whether you’re reading your favourite book or catching forty winks. The organic look of the slatted acacia wood top softens the industrial frame, which is powder coated to be weather-resistant. Lounging never looked so stylish.

La Redoute Acacia and canvas sun lounger

Give a stylish nod to the British seaside with this coastal-style striped canvas sun lounger. The chic sea-blue and golden-sand yellow will inject colour into your outdoor retreat, and the acacia wood frame and fabric are both durable and robust. Perfect for any outdoor space, from patios to poolside (if you’re really lucky).

BROMMÖ sun lounger

This classic sun lounger plays the perfect game of balance: it’s sturdy yet lightweight so it’s easy to move to chase the sun; and it’s comfortable thanks to the strong wood frame. Instead of fabric, it uses rope to support the back and the seat, offering a fresh take on a classic. Ideal for urban balconies or pretty patios.

La Redoute Ambre FSC* eucalyptus sun lounger

A wooden sun lounger adds a wonderful organic feel to the garden and eucalyptus wood is a great choice, being insect and fungi-resistant. This particular wood is also FSC-certified so you can purchase in the knowledge that it’s sustainably sourced. Expect to treat it with a layer of oil once or twice a year to keep it looking shipshape. We love the four reclining positions and big wheels, which not only deliver a retro vibe, but also make it easy to move around.

Tine K Bamboo sun lounger

TODO: define component type H2

One for Scandi design fans, this ultra-chic, pared-back sun lounger is not only seriously stylish, it’s also a brilliant eco-conscious option as fast-growing bamboo is one of the most sustainable plants. This luxe lounger is available in white, pale grey or dark grey covering the most on-trend neutral options. A treat-yourself purchase you’ll use for years.

Marks & Spencer Melrose grey garden sun lounger

An all-grey sun lounger that oozes trendy-meets-traditional vibes, this classic cushioned style gets a modern makeover with the dove-hued cushion and smoky frame. Sustainably sourced with eucalyptus wood, it’s durable with a wipe-clean cushion and an adjustable backrest for perfect Kindle-to-kip positions.

Lafuma reclining chair

A real ergonomic design treat, when reclined at 127-degrees this ‘zero-gravity’ sun lounger eases your heart rate as your heart and knees are aligned, and fully supports your spine so you’re ‘weightless’, creating a truly relaxing experience. The removable headrest is a welcome addition, while it also handily folds away making it ideal for any sized space.

Collett sun lounger

A sun lounger with its very own built-in parasol? Yes, please. The eye-catching silhouette will add a modern edge to your outdoor space and the canopy and headrest combine to create ultimate comfort. What’s more, the water-resistant fabric is durable, requires minimum maintenance and makes for pleasant perching at the same time. Ours is on order… What are you waiting for?

The Forest & Co All-weather rattan sun lounger

Up your English country garden goals with this ultra-stylish, high-end rattan sun lounger with five reclining positions. Grab a book and a G&T (there’s also a matching side table included for that) and run, don’t walk, to your chic new outdoor retreat.

Argos Home Keter Daytona rattan effect sun lounger

Want the rattan effect but don’t want to spend a fortune? We hear you. Argos has come to the smaller-budget rescue with this stylish, sleek charcoal option that won’t break the bank. With four reclining positions, a comfy cushion and a weather-proof frame, it will be a versatile and chic spot for your morning paper-and-pastry hour and your evening snooze-and-sundowner session - and everything in between.
