Overview

NSK manufactures a full range of deep groove ball bearings (DGBBs). These versatile bearings are the most common type and serve a wide variety of industries.
Besides radial loads, the bearings can take axial loads in both directions and offer low frictional torque and high-speed components ideal for applications requiring low noise and vibration.

Pressed Steel Cages
Single-row deep groove ball bearings are the most common type of rolling bearing. The raceway grooves in the inner and outer rings form a circular arc with a slightly larger radius than that of the rolling balls.
In addition to open varieties, these bearings can have steel shields or come pre-lubricated with grease maintained by rubber seals installed on one or both sides. Snap rings are sometimes used on the outside diameter of the outer ring.
Cages are generally made of pressed steel, though large bearings and bearings designed for high-speeds may use machined brass cages.

Small, miniature, and instrument precision bearings broadly come in deep groove and angular contact varieties. Deep-groove types may have a flanged outer ring, inner ring width, thin-walled cross-sections, or a special shape for synchros. These bearings can be categorized as open, sealed, shielded.

Maximum Ball Bearings

Maximum Ball Bearings

Filling slots in the inner and outer rings allow maximum ball bearings to contain a larger number of balls than normal deep groove ball bearings; however, the slots make them unsuitable for applications with high axial loads.
BL2 and BL3 types have boundary dimensions equal to those of Series 62 and 63 single-row deep groove ball bearings respectively. ZZ-type shielded bearings are available in addition to open bearings.
When using these bearings, the filling slot in the outer ring should be positioned outside of the loaded zone as much as possible.
Maximum ball bearings feature pressed steel cages.

Features

    Maximum ball bearings can support large radial loads as they contain more balls than deep groove ball bearings.
    However, they are not suitable for axial loads due to the ball filling slots.
  • Standard dimensions
    Shared boundary dimensions (BL2/Series 62, BL3/Series 63) allow for easy replacement.

Magneto Bearings

Magneto Bearings

The inner ring groove of magneto bearings is slightly shallower than that of deep groove bearings and the outer ring bore diameter on the side without a shoulder has a cylindrical surface from the bottom of the raceway. The outer ring may be separated, allowing easier mounting.
In general, two of these bearings are used together in a paired mounting (sometimes called “duplex pairs”).
Magneto bearings are small bearings with a bore diameter of 4 to 20 mm and pressed brass cages as standard, though machined synthetic resin cages can be used for high-speed rotation.

    Magneto bearings feature a shallower inner ring groove than deep groove ball bearings, and a shoulder on only one side of the outer ring groove (counter-bored outer ring).

  • What are radial loads and axial loads?
    • Loads are defined by their direction. Loads perpendicular to the shaft are called radial loads and loads parallel to the shaft are called axial (thrust) loads.
  • How are deep groove ball bearings (DGBBs) different from angular contact ball bearings?
    • While DGBBs can take axial loads in both directions, angular contact ball bearings can only receive axial load in one direction.
  • What are the differences between open, sealed, and shielded deep groove ball bearings?
    • Seals and shields offer additional protection for bearing components and help to improve and maintain lubrication. In terms of sealing performance, sealed bearings rank best, followed by shielded bearings, then finally open bearings. NSK uses supplementary designations D, DU, DW, and V (DD, DDU, DDW, VV) for sealed bearings and Z (ZZ) for shielded bearings. No supplementary designations are added to open bearings.
